My Smartkey stopped working!!
#3
Same basics I can think of:
* First of all, try the other smart key you have. Then you know if the problem is in your key or in part in the car.
* Check the battery in the smart key. If in doubt, just replace.
* Switch off the smart key system and switch it on again (below steering wheel and dashboard).
* When the system is not used for a certain amount of time, it switches itself of. That requires a certain time of inactivity (see manual)
Does the remote work normally?
Hope this gets you started.
Good luck!

The button for the smart key is typically described as being on the lower dash down by your right knee.
I went out to the car and looked and did not see it. So I kept looking - well actually its a little further down than where your knee is - in order to even see the button you have to get your head right down next to the gas and brake pedal and look up. Its down there - right above where your right ankle is. So much good ergonomic design on the LS - the location on that specific switch is an unnecessary inconvenience.

On my '04 there are two switches inconveniently located just above the driver right kneecap. One is the tire pressure reset switch. The other is the smart key switch. The smart key switch is a latching type meaning press on, press again off. Turning smart key off has no effect on keyless entry, it’s just to disable starting the car with the key fob in your pocket.

Picture of the buttons in question
Picture of the buttons that have been discussed. The bottom of the picture you can see the top gas petal. One of the buttons is the reset for the tire pressure monitor, and other is the smart key on/off button, which is the button closer to the gas petal. The **** is to adjust the volume of the warning signal.
My experience is the smart key On/Off button only works with the key in the off position. To reset the tire pressure monitor, with the key in the on position, press and hold the button until the warning light turns off, it takes about 5 seconds.
