Air Shock/Struts problem on 2010 LS460L AWD
Hi..
I have purchased 2010 Lexus LS460L AWD with air suspension with 73K miles on the car about 7 weeks ago.
I have drove about 5k miles and I have started to hear raddled noise from the front driver side front shock and loud banging noise from rear passenger side every time I drive in bumpy / rough roads.
So I have visited the Lexus dealer and soon as I have spoke to service adviser and he said it's the air shocks/struts on my car and it's common problem on the LS460 with air shocks/struts.
and the repair is going to cost me about $2k per each air shocks.
I don't know what I should do at this point.
Should I purchase the extended warranty from Lexus or 3 party vendor who covers air suspension /struts
or
just pay out of my pocket (I will be broke).
Also I have asked service adviser if I could purchase the extended warranty and he said I can't purchase the warranty because it's not a CPO and I could only get it through the Lexus financial services.
Is this true?
If any one has information how and where to purchase a extended warranty which covers air shock/struts or have any recommendation getting a heavy duty air shocks/struts on LS460 that will be very helpful.
I live in northern NJ and travels to NYC a lot and roads in NYC is horrible (pot holes, bad road conditions).
Thank you guys...

Unfortunately, air suspension parts are very expensive. First I would find the part numbers and look on Lexus of South Atlanta parts and see what they charge. On the 430, each airbag is about $1100. You can also search online and look for used parts. Not ideal but much more friendly on the wallet. I found a whole set of airbags for my 430 for about $450 and have them as backup. They are used but in very good shape. Only 50k on them.
As far as 3rd party warranties go, you need to be very careful and read the fine print as to what they cover.
The other option is that you purchase springs and shocks and just convert the air suspension over to regular suspension. This should cost you less then $2500 out the door. Of course, you will need to find the parts yourself and find a good mechanic to install and align the vehicle. KYB makes very good shocks and are an OEM manufacturer. Check out RockAuto.com for some prices. Any of this type of work done at the dealer is going to cost you an arm and a leg. If you need help locating good local mechanics try using the Yelp.com and look at the reviews of your local auto mechanics.

I think I should get extended warranty platinum.
Dealers are asking 2 ur/24000 miles for $3600.
This would cover the air suspension issues right?

My 2010 is in the dealership as we speak for the third time for the suspension. They called yesterday and had to replace left rear shock/strut yesterday (already had the right rear done) and they may have to do right front again as the guy said he couldn't hear chattering noise they will check again Monday. the first two were done under regular warranty - this last one will be covered by extended. Very frustrating for a 75k car to have this many issues with the suspension.
I almost traded it in yesterday on a 2013 with about 7k miles but just couldn't come to an agreed upon price on the overall deal. Maybe when I show up with my checkbook next week that will change things!

Wow. I had all 4 of my air struts done at roughly 45-47K miles and am now approaching 75K miles. So far, so good. Twice before 75K is ridiculous.

i had the same problem as OP, had them change both rears under warranty as mine is cpo.
i'm planning on going aftermarket soon. if i never had a warranty i would go aftermarket. but if anyone is looking to get a set of oem air struts for half the price the dealers sells for i'll be posting up soon enough.

For less than $2k you can convert the LS's OEM air struts to traditional coil springs. I am pretty sure I would go this route if I was out of warranty. http://www.suncoreindustries.com/lex...suspension.php
