I've been experiencing a delay of engagement of 4-5 seconds when shifting into reverse lately. It doesn't happen every time I shift into reverse though. It has occurred when the car has been both warmed up and cold. I'm in Miami Beach so it's not cold out at all. The car is an '02 with 175k miles and trans fluid was completely replaced with Toyota Type IV for at least the third time in its life about 6 months ago. What could be the issue?
First thing I would think about would be the condition of the fluid. Since that has been addressed some internal issue? Does the solenoid require a rebuild?
I think it would be worth verifying you have the correct amount of fluid in her before you drop the pan. Also, it appears the solenoids are not related from the info RKW posted.
I see that's for the 04-06 cars. Mine is an '02 with a dipstick. Should I check the fluid when it's cold or after the engine is warmed up? While it's idling or off?
Drop the pan, replace the solenoid, clean the pan and replace the filter. seal up the pan and use OEM transmission fluid from the dealer, that should fix the problem.
