1992 SC400 12 disk CD player problem???
Hi everyone, i tried searching before making this tread but couldnt find anything out.
As of last night my 12 disk CD player has a problem. Up untill last night it has worked perfect for me so I dont know what could have happened,
I started the car and for some reason my CD player would not play any disc's and just display Err messages. I farted aroung with the 12 disc changer in the trunk and everything seems to be working, the player takes discs in and out and everything. After messing around in the trunk I am no longer able to select "CD" function from the dash of the car. The "CD" button is no longer lit up like the "tuner & Tape" buttons. I cant even get in into CD mode any more.
Is there any easy fixes for this issue?
Can I remove the 12 disc changer and rebuild it?
Are there any aftermarket disc changers that I can use?
Any help is appreciated

I have a similar problem with my SC400. Bought the car used without a changer. Put an ebay changer (from a Pioneer system) in, but only got an ERR message when I try to play CDs. The disks go in and out, just don't play. Tried to sway in a Nak amp (previous owner put in an aftermarket amp), but that didn't do anything. This week I will try a cd changer from a car with a Nak system.
As far as what may be wrong with your unit, I would try cleaning out the cd cartridge real well. Old posts point to that very often. Good luck.

Got it working again!!!!
I just took it apart, sprayed compressed air through every angle, cleaned off the little eye. I also pressed the reset button which may have been all it needed but I enjoy taking things apart so.....
All in all it took only an hour to remove/clean/put back together.

SC400 12 Disk CD Changer Question
I bought a CD changer from Gazi and Al. Works perfect. Same part numbers same year (1994), one just works - one doesn't. I did not take the broken changer apart, but I cleaned it real good, cleaned the laser, cleaned the cds, still doesn't work.
Does anyone know where or what this gentleman is talking about regarding a reset button? I cannot find it.
Thanks in advance.

restet button
The reset button on the cd changer is on the back wall of the cd cartridge compartment. is a small hole that should have raised letters that say reset, stick a small screwdriver or punch in and press the button and it will reset the unit
