Default Service Advice from the Dealer

When I got my car at the dealership, I was told that our 3IS don't need oil change till 10K. The first 5K service is mostly visual check. And they also said the original oil from the factory is the best. I'm not used to this type of schedule. Do you agree? When did your 3IS have the first oil change?

All true but I would not haste and state toyota's synthetic oil is the best one. It is definitely good but there are so many other excellent synthetics available (royal purple, castrol, Amsoil, Mobil 1 you name it). Last time I used this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007G7PWYY/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?pc_redir=T1

It says this oil us good for 15,000 miles. I would not wait 15K miles but this extended protection does sound good.

synthetic does last for 10k in these engines. Ive done multiple oil analysis on various cars and synthetic is good for 10k.

I've heard claims you can go up to 10K between oil changes. However, I still change my oil every 5-7K regularly. I use Mobil 1 0W-20 Extended Performance 15,000. They had in on clearance at Auto Zone for $1 a qt so I ended up buying all 25 quarts for $25. That should last me 2 years! ha ha

Thanks for all the feedback. I do believe that good synthetic oil lasts long, but wasn't sure if the factory oil was the best as the dealer stated. I'm glad that most of you confirmed it.

The owners manual lists the first oil change at 10k on the 3IS.

wow that is like $10 per oil change ($6 on oil and $4 filter) using top notch quality oil.

that's what the manual says! Unless you have harass driving conditions, I wouldn't change it sooner than 10k miles. A waste of money and bad for mother earth.
