Angry The dreaded is250 engine swap thread

Ok i know this topic seems to induce rage...but i can't help it. Hypothetically, you have an is250 rwd coupled with an automatic transmission. And you managed to acquire an is350 engine (and transmission??) could you...would you...should you go through with the swap??? haha. More importantly is "could you" because I'm stupid. The car wasn't originally intended for me btw...and if it was up to me id sell it and get an s1000rr faster than you could say 250. The power of the 250 isn't bad i just feel like the chassis is capable of so much more!! and i feel like I'm driving a lie based on how it looks lol.

exactly. love how some make it seem like a 'swap' is trivial. it's anything but unless it's an old chevy or something.

Sure it's physically possible with enough time, money and skill. But there's so many "gottcha's!" in a modern car. Just consider the computers and wiring aspects alone. These cars will have separate engine, trans, stability control and body computers, each talking to most or all the others, sometimes through can-bus wiring and modules. Any mismatches will give you warning lights, performance problems or even no-go conditions.

Since the fuel systems are so different between these two engines, much of the computers, modules and wiring will be needed from an IS 350. You have all that with that 3.5 engine, right? Will it all be compatable with the body wiring harness in a 250? Will a 350 fuel pump fit the existing fuel tank? If it does, will the fuel transfer pump line fit the new pump?

This is just the "tip of the iceberg" concerns for such a swap. Oh, we're not crossing model years too much with the engine, body or computers and wiring are we? That's often a real world gottcha. I'm joining the crowd and saying it would be far cheaper and faster to just trade for a 350.

Keep in mind we're talking about cars of similar MY. TSX only had one mpg better in the city than the 2IS 250.

Your finances and reasons aside...

A 350 swap into a 250 is the ONLY "easy" swap possible for the car. You need the engine, tranny, rear diff and drive shaft and ecu for a smooth swap though. And you need a 250 with VDIM (09+) or need to buy the VDIM module.

You decide if it's it's worth it. I won't get into that because that's what stirs emotions.

Edit.... Yes I've contemplated doing it if I ever come across all the parts for cheap, because I am in incredibly too deep to trade up...
