It amazes me seeing people complain about gas mileage driving a 300+hp luxury car. It is all about how you drive the car and where you drive it.
If you do drive mostly in the city you are going to get horrible gas mileage, period. If you cruise with a light foot on the highway you will get some pretty good mileage. That is why you see people saying they only get 17mpg. Well those people do a lot of city driving. The other extreme is people who go 55mph on the highway are probably getting very high 20's to low 30mpg on the highway.
The IS350 over all gets pretty good mileage. My old IS300 only got a combined 22mpg. I get 22mpg in my IS350 which has almost 100hp more.

I have driven the 3.5 liter 6 in both the GS and in my IS cab, if I do strictly highway, and drive without any major hills, going 65 and not passing too many jerks, get between 28 to 30 miles per gallon. Driving about 60% highway, 40% city in Metropolitan New York, I get on average about 21 to 22 miles per gallon.
