I did mine a few months back and my memory is not the best but from what I recall you have remove it from the inside of the cabin behind the the passenger head rests. There are 2-3 clips that hold that felt cover into place. You pull up on it and then it comes out... Then the sub is held down by 4 bolts that you have to remove. Its easier to get at removing the felt cover too if you first remove the seats... There is a thread on that if you do a search.

You can just reach in there and pull the plug on the sub. No need to remove all the bolts unless you WANT to take the sub out.

The bottom seat cushion pulls out and up with a swift tug, nothing holding it in place. Once that's out, remove the bottom bolts holding the seat belts. Then remove the four bolts holding the rear seat back. Lift the seat back up and out. It's easier with two people but I managed it myself a few times. This gives you access to the rear deck lid. It pops up with a few good swift tugs, enough to give you access to the ML sub. There are 4 - 10mm bolts holding the sub down or you can just reach towards the back left side and disconnect the wire bundle. However, it's easier if you unbolt it first as it's a pretty tight space. Search the threads and you'll find some pics showing all this.

I didn't see any wires to pull from the trunk. Any place I should be looking at?

Oh no, not from the trunk. You reach in from the back seats. Got to remove the seat and deck panel
