Usually, you should remove the rear seat bottom and top and then the rear deck lid. The sub bolts down from the top under the panel. Their are two bolts that hold the seat bottom on. You have to remove the bottom part first and then you will see the bolts for the top portion. You should be able to do this with little effort.
i have a sub in there now, but i just want some trunk space back.
thanks brian. i tried to tug on the bottom seat a little, but i guess why thats why it didnt budge. haha ok i think i can figure it out from there.
Yes, it can be snug from the factory install. The two bottoms bolts may be hidden from the seat cushion folding over it a bit. Run your finger under the seat cushion between the floor carpet to identify the hold down bolts. You will probably have the both seat assembly's and the rear deck-lid out in half hour taking your time. I forgot to mention, you may have to remove the piller pieces and be careful to not pinch the curtain airbag coil when you re-assemble.
I just did my IS last night!!! I added a aftermarket sub and amp to stock non-ML system.... you need to remove to rear sub for more sound pass-through here is the link I used.
