Default Is this a bad plan for 25k maintenance?

Go to Lexus dealer and purchase an OEM oil filter and cabin filter.

Go to Valvoline Oil Change Center down the street and have them do the change, but use my filter. No, I don't want to do it myself.

Install cabin filter myself. This I don't mind doing.

-OR-

Is there any reason to let Lexus do this (at what $$$$)?

If I go with my plan, is there a particular grade of Valvoline oil I should ask for?

You can do a search for maintenance threads and their are a ton with opinions. The general feeling is that Lexus obviously overcharges for all service. Everything is very easy to DIY on the 2gen. The cabin filter takes no time at all to intsall and the oil change is very basic. I would do everything yourself if possible. If not, a respectable oil change place will be fine. Use a good 5w30.

dont forget to put the cabin filter on recirculate before you pull the filter...or else you will be visiting the dealer.

Because if you don't you're not getting it out without breaking something

Generally Lexus dealers charge $50 for an oil change only. If you provide them with the oil, then it will be cheaper. IMO, I rather have a Lexus tech do it on my car then some generic tech who hasn't worked on a 2IS before. You are probably saving maybe $20 max.

because if you dont theres a cover that goes over your air filter and you mess with it you could break it! just turn on your car and watch when you turn off your recirculation and on you'll see the cover move. thus if you break it its a pita to change it and you will be visiting the dealer lol

btw pull a tech or a quick lube guy at lexus and pay them 20 bucks to do it.. simple as that

Lexus of Las Vegas charges $80 for an oil change.

If that's really true, then I'll let Lexus do it. I didn't think they would do just an oil change (rather insist on the whole 25k inspection enchilada). If they will do it for $50 without too much grief, I'd rather they do it. Otherwise, I'll be executing my plan.

Thanks for the recirc advice. I would never have known that.
