Hi guys, question, I went to change oil on my 2006 IS 350 with 50k, and they said that I have to change oil filter and one more filter( extra $13) plus charged me for extra quart of mobil 1 synthtic oil $8. mechanic said that this filter is required on this oarticular car and mercedes, but it wasnt req. on my 2006 m35x.
Anybody knows what the other filter for???????

You should have asked the mechanic what the "one more filter" was while you were still in the shop, because there's only one filter (the oil filter) that needs to be changed when doing engine oil service.

yea theres no other filter you would have to change when doing oil. maybe he was just referring to the cabin filter, usually you change it every 10k miles so at 50k you would change it

thats the oil filter and being charged for an extra quart is normal since most oil changes only include oil up to 5 quarts

The only filters on the car requiring routine changes are:

Oil- every 5k
Engine air-15k
Cabin air-15k

Whatever happened to gas filters? These were standard on cars for years and would be changed every few years. What's changed that they are no longer needed?

He pulled a quick one on you! They show you a part and says your car needs it, but it never gets installed. He just made a real EASY $13 from you. Like shooting fish in a barrel!

Cabin filter = square paper element
Engine Air filter = Square paper element
Oil filter = round paper element
