Navigation update

As far as actual difference between gen 6 and gen 8 in terms of features, gen 8 seems to have a slightly better display, better looking maps, and updated menus. There may be other differences. I haven't really played with the gen 8 system enough to know what all is different. I know the maps are done through micro SD on gen 8, but I have no idea how to actually install the map update, or if any sort of special installation procedure is required?

They told me that the newest Navigation is Generation 8, but they didn't tell me that my 2010 is a Generation 6. It appears that Generation 8 made it's entrance in about 2013.
I do know from reading stuff directly from Lexus that the Generation 8 has maps for Mexico and also for Alaska and Hawaii, if I remember correctly.
The part # for my 2010 GX460 is PT219-HDDG6-15. The maps are updated every year around October.
