is my navigation HDD based or ?

so i was wondering, how does the dealer one someone update the maps on my vehicle? is my navigation HDD based? say I go to the dealer how do they update maps?

It is hard drive based but I'm not sure how they update the maps. I know some of the newer lexus vehicles are updated with a USB drive.
