GX470 Rear Shocks
My 2006 GX470 just has 82,000 miles on it, and the rear shocks are already out. This vehicle only drives normal roads, nothing rough. It is ten years old, and sits outside. Still, I don't get it, this seems way too soon for such an expensive repair on a Lexus?

Well, I'm comparing it to my LX470. I had no major problems until over 100,000 miles? It was great!
When you say "most" shocks - maybe for other brands of cars that might be so? I'm not talking about "most" cars. A Lexus should not need to have shocks replaced at 50,000 miles, or even 80,000 IMO. People pay a lot more money for Lexus, so don't expect things to start going wrong until around 100,000 miles.

That's not even close to true. Just because it's a lexus doesn't mean that they magically get better shocks. Shocks are shocks. Your are made by either tokico or bilstein. Shocks start to lose their performance at around 50k or so. Most people don't notice shock wear until 80 or 100k when it gets really bad. If you changed your shocks every 50k you would notice the difference.

The problem is that most people don't think of shocks as a normal wear item. They wear so slowly people don't realize they are worn. By the time they are leaking they have been long worn out. Just like your brakes are a normal wear item so are you shocks. Difference is you can't see the wear.
