Navigation gen4 to gen5 refresh
Hi all,
I hope it is a right forum to post. I have 07 IS350 and now just picked up 05 GX470 to do some towing. First thing about GX that I noticed was its a great work horse, and second that it has outdated look of GPS maps and screen all together comparing to my IS350.
I tried to do a lot of research on how to convert screen look and only came out with one post were someone did it in a diff model, but doesn't remember or contribute what he did to convert.
To simplify, I think that all Lexus models of GEN 5 GPS used the same DVD ECU/ROM, possibly with diff part numbers and diff locations but at the end of the day, they were the same units. I did preliminary visual inspection of the units and plugs that enter all GEN 5 GPS/ROMs, and units were the same but I'm not sure of diagram because I never checked them but it could be minor.
I think people never played with it because it cost around $400 for a second hand ROM from eBay. So I did some research and found out that PRIUS GPS/ROM with diff part number (86841-47040) is visually identical with same connectors, and sellers clam it the same, and referred as GEN 5 GPS for Lexus and Toyota vehicles. So I got one from eBay for a $100 with pigtails and planning to play with it.
From my search I know that DVD/ROM unit is the key component to make screen resolution higher even using older screens. Older screen are the same as new ones.
I know that some questions been answered before so apology right here but the purpose of this thread is to try to refresh information and try to complete it, so reposts are welcome.
Also, I want to have a clean conversion and don't want to cut original harness that enters my Gen4 GPS/DVD Rom, if possible. So for a start I need to find aftermarket female Gen4 connectors/adapters from my GEN 4 harness that will be mated to Gen 5 pigtails. Please, let us know if you find anything.
Second, I need diagrams of the plugs (not the whole car electric circuits big file) but only connectors that enter 05 GX470 with Mark Levinson and their names/numbers. And possibly (will try to look at diff forums for) a 08 Prius GEN5 connectors diagrams that enter GPS/ROM (24pin, 8pin and 2 coaxial plugs/cables). So we can compare signals and possibly connect it.
