Hey, Team. I had zero luck searching for navigation differences between the 5.1 found in the '07 RX versus the previous (what's its name?!) gen nav in the '05 RX? Point me in the right direction because I'm not using the right search terms.
* Edit: Looks like I meant Gen5 8.1

You are confusing two ideas. There are different generation navigation systems (ie gen 2/3, gen 4, and gen5) found in the different model years. Now each of those navigation systems can run different version software (ie 4.1, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1). Each generation has their own version of the navigation software (dvd).
Now are you asking about the differences in the hardware systems (between gen 4 and gen5) or are you asking about the differences in software (between 6.1 and 7.1).
Generation 4 navigation systems are found in 2005-2006 models and the generation 5 navigation systems are found in 2007-2008 models.
Shouldn't double post the topic. Never proper form.
The gen 5 system has a higher resolution screen, and so the graphics and maps are a lot sharper and detailed than the grainy graphics on a gen4 system. The gen5 navigation disc also has map data on Hawaii, which the gen4 disc lacks.
I don't think anything other than a map dvd that is one year newer. The 08 and 09s have a gen5 hardware which has crisper cleaner displays and better voice response features. I don't think any of that was in an 07.

Actually 07 has the same gen5 hardware which has crisper cleaner display and better voice response features as 08 and 09s.
In 07 & up models you do not have the overide feature that was available upto 06 models which had the previous generation nav hardware.
This feature can be enable with a hybrid dvd or buying after market hookup which will allow you to input destinations while driving(Which is dangerous if done by a driver )
