I have a 2004 GX that needs a front brake overhaul - pads, rotors, and one caliper. The dealer quoted $1,000 but a reputable, independent shop is $700. The indy plans to use Centric rotors and says they are just as good as OEM. What are your thoughts on this? Suggestions on other brands? I want something better than OEM. The brakes have been a pita ever since purchase, with was used with 10K miles. Lots of issues with shuddering and vibration. The rotors have been turned twice and pads replaced twice. Also, should I go ahead and get the other caliper replaced even though there are currently no issues?

100K miles has been daunting, last August the radiator sprung a leak coming home from vacation 3 states away. I complained to the dealer that radiators shouldn't be leaking in this day and age and luckily, they took pity. I got the radiator and water pump replaced for $950, which was a $200 cheaper than the indy.

I used OEM stuff twice, barely got 30K on pads and rotors, last time and Indy shop used centric...I am up to 40 K and still have a way to go.

I replaced my front brakes last week and used Centric rotors (looked really nice, painted hats and outer edges), Hawk LTS pads (much better bite than whatever was on there before), and Cardone reman calipers (both calipers had seized pistons). I have no issues using aftermarket parts for stuff like this as you can often get better bang for the buck, but I'm also a guy that believes there's no replacement for OEM on many other parts.

I'd recommend the Centric rotors based on my experience with them, and although it would be tempting as they are prone to failure, I'd leave it up to you whether to replace both calipers at the same time or not.

I'm on my 3rd FR caliper and 2nd FL. The last ones were Autozone brand. My only complaint with my last calipers is they rusted almost immediately after installing them.

I used Brakemotive drilled and slotted with ceramic pads. Purchased it for $160 off ebay. I used them before and the stopping power, quality and durability are phenomenal. They are zinc plated so they will never tarnish which adds a lil style too.
