Default Clunking

Need you opinions on doing the TSB on the Clunking. I have heard about this problem for years but didn't now about the TSB until I joined CL. I personally have never heard or felt a clunking in my GX470. My 4 yr warranty ends in Oct 10. So, should I have the TSB done before the warranty expires or should I go with the old adage of "If not broken, don't fix it."?

Thanks for the advise.

most dealers won't fix things unless you can reproduce it.

Wrong, if you can give the TSB#

Most dealers will tell you that it is normal for 4x4 trucks even you can reproduce the issue; which is completely BS. See if you can find pdf file called L-SB-0116-08 and take the print out with you to show them if they refuse to fix the problem. Or lexus or Toyota to send you a copy of TSB# L-SB-0116-08 prior going to dealer.

Good Luck!

If you don't have the clunk, then don't bother with the fight. There is some evidence that having the TSB performed results in a rougher ride (i.e., bottoming out) because of a shortcut taken by the techs. If you don't have a problem after 4 years, then I bet you are in the clear - maybe your vehicle was manufactured after they put the fix in place; maybe they did the fix before you took delivery?

IMHO - if it ain't broke don't fix it! Life is short enough as it is.

LOL. You're wrong because TSB means Technical Service Bulletins. They help guide dealers to figure what the problem is. If it's a recall and fits in the range of cars effected by that recall then yes the dealer and manufacturer must do it.

If your car has the 'clunk' but it doesn't bother you are there other reasons to get it fixed - does the clunk mean something is wearing out or breaking? My GX probably has a mild case but I don't really mind it - my other vehicle is a 3/4 ton Dodge Cummins so the GX seems very smooth & quiet whether it clunks from time to time or not. My concern with fixing it are the posts where people report other issues after getting the TSB repair done.
