GS450h start up and battery charge question
Hello from the UK.......
I went to look at a 2009 GS450h today. Great car and looking to buy but have two questions would be grateful for guidance on:
Firstly, when I sat in and pressed the Power button the car started on petrol, not electric power, which I wasn't expecting as i understood the 450H always starts on battery. Am i right or getting mixed up?
Secondly, and maybe linked to the above, when I looked in the boot (trunk?) the cover was off the small battery located on the lh side. I suspect they may have been using a booster pack to get the car going (as car dealers often do) but isn't this a big no no for the 450H?
Grateful for all advice and guidance.
(looking for a 450h but the SC430 is going nowhere!)
Cheers
Mike

If the engine is cold and the heater is set for warming then the petrol engine will start and warm up to provide heating. Once it's up to temp it will shut off at appropriate times as per normal running.
As for the battery cover being off I think you guessed right.

The engine may start on pressing the power. Totally normal.
There is no harm in jumping the battery. (Not a big no no)
Stoodo, thanks very much for your help

Nice looking example.
I have the 2006 and I would have preferred the style refresh look from 2008 onwards...indicators on the door mirrors, bit more chrome around the grill.
We love our GS450h though! You won't regret getting one.
If you can get a warranty from Lexus/Toyota even better (mainly to cover the hybrid battery replacement)
Enjoy.

Good morning all
I have a gs 450 h 2009. I left the door open and my battery went flat.. I do not have a user's manual. I can not get into the boot to charge the battery because the boot opens electronically only?? Please help
Kind regards

Your probably going to have to remove the panel inside the car that had the trunk open button and supply power to the switch to get it to open. Try hooking some wires up to a 9 volt battery and touching the terminals of the switch. This worked for me in my LS 400 when I locked the keys in the trunk and had the trunk lock bottom engaged.
