that is true, but generally 10" subs do not go as low (ie: hertz) when compared to 12" subs. i'm talking about sound quality (SQ), not db or big booming bass. in my old iasca (novice) competition system (1990 MB 300E 2.6), i had two 12" subs. and it was tuned in such a way that you couldn't tell there were 12" subs in the car when the volume was cranked (its all about the SQ).

Personally I'd rather have the 13tw5. two twelves is a ridiculous amount of bass, the tw5 is supposed to be nice too.

Just get a 10 w7 in a wedge with a jl 500/1 mono. That can hit harder than most 12s and it will hit the deep base too. Had mine for 18 months now and won't trade it for anything.

Sorry to chime back in so late in my own thread. I've since been done with the whole system setup. Went along with a few things here and there.... MB Quart components, Sundown SD-2's, JL G6600, and Kicker kx750.1.

I've kept everything as close to SQ as I could, and under a budget friendly price

The kicker kx750.1 wasn't my choice when it came down to a SQ-oriented amplifier, but I chose this amplifier because it was a inherited amplifier from my recently passed away family member. All in all the system worked out great, and the car has plenty of SQ behind it, alongside SPL with it.

I agreed with you, I originally wanted a 13tw5, but 2 12in Sundown subwoofers were well within my budget, build for the box was perfect, as it fit exactly to my specifications, and they sound more than great. They were built in a sealed configuration, were louder than a 12w7, and they were $125 a piece (during first release). Supposedly the SD-2's were built more orientedly towards SQ than SPL, unlike their brother, the SA-series. They get pretty loud... I wouldn't say as close to a SA-12, but they get pretty loud back there to the point where my gas lid is going crazy, my front windshield makes a dance, and my tassle+fusa knot does this hoppity hoppity thing. After messing with that nonsenes for a few days, tuned it back down, and now the system is perfectly in-sync and as SQ as you can get with the budget I was given .

I had the 12w7, in a wedge box too, back in my Acura legend days, had to do some cutting and rewelding to get the box to even fit in there, it was loud, it was deep, and no way was the w7 SQ oriented IMO. All in all, i had 2 12w6's, put those in my GS (they were also previously in the Legend). Hit harder than the single 12w7, more SQ oriented, but still did not satisfy my ears.....

I later made this thread to get away from those subwoofers and teh w7, and ended up getting the 2 sundowns on reccomendation. The fellow told me he'd buy'em from me if I didn't like'em, but I ended up liking them more than anything!

Another great thing was that the subs are rebuildable for a measly $25-35.... SHIPPED.

P.S. not to rag or start a whole battle with JL vs the world.... but if you're looking for a good competitor vs the 10w7, the Sa-8 (sundown's 8in woofer) would probably put that thing to shame..... I've seen them in ridiculously small boxes, with a port on'em and my goodness, they wanted to come out of the trunk LOL!
