Beyond the TSB's - Mirror Rattle Fix
I know that there are a lot of you out there who bought your vehicles brand new. You were able to get all TSB work done under warranty and have already had all of your recalls fixed. Well, what happens when you buy a vehicle used that is over 50K and the previous owner didnt bother to take it to the dealership or the issue they had fixed under warranty is now back. This is exactly what i will be covering in what i would like to call, Beyond the TSB's. If you have read the Mirror Rattle TSB (I dont know the number off hand), you will see that Lexus would like you to replace the entire mirror assembly ($1,500 and .2 hours labor). However, the mirror isn't the real issue here. People that have had their rearview mirror replaced may notice the same issue return over time. The fix is very simple. Take out your Torx set ( i will post the specific Torx# tomorrow, i am not at work right now) and hop in your car. Tilt the rearview mirror to one side so you can get better access to the mounting bracket behind it. you will notice a hole in the middle of this bracket. simply use your torx and a ratchet with an extension on it and tighten the bolt in the center. you should notice any freeplay in the mirror is now gone. if you want you can remove the bolt and use locktite when installing so you want have this problem anymore. just dont go overboard tightening this bolt or you will cause more problem for yourself. Hooray! you can finally see the cars behind you without it looking like you're in an earthquake. i hope this helps and please let me know what fixes and TSB's i should cover in the future. i look forward to some feedback.

welcome to CL, and thx for the tip. some TSB's do require the dealership to fix (valve spring recall comes to mind), as this is something you can't do in your garage (unless you are a mechanic or an experienced DIYer).
