Heating System Controls
I can't for the life of me figure out how to keep the controls set between uses of my 2014 ES 350. When I start up, it's on "auto" which then goes off. If I push "auto" then the A/C comes on which I don't want. Can anyone explain this to me? My goal is to have the same settings come on between uses of my car unless I manually change them.

I am not sure what you are doing differently but when I got my ES I pushed Auto one time then adjusted the fan speed down using the fan switch and the car never again started in Auto mode. You might check the owner's manual but I can't think of what would make it operate as you describe.

The main "auto" button is the one that is further to the left. If you press that one, it will set the system on full auto, and that includes enabling the AC compressor to be on.. When the AC compressor is enabled, it will actually be using the compressor only as needed, based on temperature and humidity conditions. If you go into the climate control screen and manually turn the AC off, it should stay off and all climate control settings should remain the same until or unless you press that main "auto" button again, at which time the AC will be enabled again.
If you are talking about the "auto" button that is further to the right, that one controls only whether air will be re-circulated or whether fresh air will be brought into the cabin. Every time you re-start the vehicle, the setting related to that button will default to auto. When in auto, if the temperature is above about 75, air will be recirculated, but, if the temperature is below 75, fresh air will be brought into the cabin. If you don't want the system to be doing what the auto defaults are for fresh or recirculated air, you need (unfortunately) to cycle through presses of that button until you get the setting you want, and you need to do so every time you re-start the vehicle.

The only setting that might change each time you turn the vehicle on is whether fresh air is brought into the passenger compartment or whether air is recirculated. As I explained in my earlier post, if the outside temperature is above 75 degrees, air will be recirculated, and, if outside temperature is below 75 degrees, fresh air will be brought into the passenger compartment. If, however, you don't want the automatic setting for fresh or recirculated air, you can change it with the other "auto" button (the one that is further to the right).

It doesn't. When you shut off the vehicle and re-start it, the climate control system should be set to the exact same temperature that it was before as long, as you don't press any buttons to change it. Also, whether the air conditioning compressor is on or off should be the same as it was before. If, however, you had turned the AC off, if you press the "auto" button (the one to the left), you will turn the AC back on, but, if you don't press that button, the AC on/off status should remain as it was before.

Another question, when I put the air on floor only, I get very little floor air, but a lot of air through the middle vents. Any explanation for this?
Thanks for your advice.

Well, it doesn't seem to do what you suggest. Example. It's on auto and set at 71 degrees. I turn off the vehicle. Sometimes, it will return to this, seemingly when the car has not been turned off too long. On the other hand, what usually happens is when I start the car, the auto light is on, and then in about 30 seconds, it goes off. That's when I have to push it and up comes 75 degrees.

When you have set the system to send air through the floor vents, almost all of the air should be coming through those floor vents, but a small amount of air is, I think, always sent to the vents by the windshield.
At this point my suggestion would be set up a time when you can bring the vehicle to the dealership and meet with their delivery specialist or, perhaps, a service advisor. He/she should be able to quickly make sure that you are using the system properly and that it is functioning properly. On the other hand, I suppose that there is the possibility that your climate control system is malfunctioning, even though I don't recall having heard of an instance where a climate control system is doing what you you are describing.

As an afterthought to my post above, I was wondering if there is any chance that your vehicle might have some sort of an electrical issue. If the electrical system is not properly providing backup power to the climate contol (and, perhaps, other systems) when the vehicle is shut off, that could cause the climate control system to lose its settings, and, if that is the case, when the vehicle is re-started, it would revert to default settings. It could well be that those default settings are 75 degrees and full auto with the AC compressor turned on. If that were the case, that could explain most, if not all, of what you are seeing. That would also explain why the system would be remembering the last temperature if the car was only shut down briefly, but why it would revert to 75 if the car had been shut down for a longer period of time and after backup power had been exhausted.

Another thing to consider is if there are two keys and two drivers for the car, then settings on startup will depend on the last user or the last key that was used to unlock the vehicle.
The following may cause what appears to be inconsistent behavior:
Vehicle is locked. You use KEY 1 to unlock the vehicle, this will bring up Key 1's settings (seat memory, AC settings, last phone paired, etc...) Then one of the two scenarios:
Scenario 1:
You then shut off the vehicle, lock the car. You or someone uses Key 2, unlock and start the vehicle, the car will recall Key 2's settings which maybe completely different from Key 1 (this scenario is obvious)
Scenario 2:
You then shut off the vehicle, leave the car UNLOCKED. Your or someone subsequently uses Key 2 to start the vehicle. The car will still use all of Key 1's settings since Key 1 was last used to unlock the vehicle, even though you are using Key 2 to start it. (settings recalled is not as obvious in this scenario because you're using Key 2 but are still getting Key 1 settings)....
when
Additionally in Scenario 2, if you then turn the car off, and use Key 2 to lock the vehicle, if Key 1 is used to start the vehicle, then Key 1's settings are recalled (this is back to Scenario 1, except with the Keys switched)
Bottom line... Are there two keys in use??

Nope, only been using the one key. Think I need to have it checked out. Definitely not operating as people have described. On highway for couple of hours yesterday, set for floor air, and very little coming there, but a lot coming out of the upper vents.
Thanks everyone for your advice.
