If you provide adequate ultra violet (UV) protection for the paint it is less harmful tree sap etc.
Be cognizant that dird excrement will do the most harm to a aint surface

sunbathe.... put in windshield visor and put up your rear sunshade. parking under a tree..... IMHO... don't think that's a good idea. no matter what protection you have on your car.

Of course leaving it out in the sun is less harmful for a simple reason. Most people don't have a clue how to remove tree sap safely once its deposited on the vehicle, so when they make the effort to remove it, often times, they end up marring or swirling the paint because their methods are too aggressive.
Leaving the car out in the sun will really not do much or any harm to it at all, especially for three days (how weak do you think your paint is? it can take alot more abuse than three days of sun trust me). Waxing or sealing the paint will help in both situations by adding uv protection and by making tar cleanup easier since it wont bond with the paint as well.
Good luck.

Paint and clearcoat is designed to be able to provide protection against sunlight. It is not really designed to protect against tree sap and definitely not designed to protect against bird crap. Bird crap is pretty much the worst thing for clearcoat and certain kinds out in the sun will permanently damage a finish in less then a hour. Parking under a tree for an extended period of time may seem like a good idea but can do more damage because birds will crap on it more and sap can do its damage along with possibly branches falling on it. A car parked in the sun especially with a wax or sealant will be fine, the finish can withstand the heat and sun.

Thermal expansion I can understand, but I was thinking too compensating for minor pressure differentials would be done by design or incidentally in a modern (Lexus) vehicle.
