I'd have to drive it but it does have my interest. Though I don't know if its that much more luxurious than the Prius to lose 15 MPG

I think the practicality of the Prius wins out in every regard compared to this car.
Here are a few key things the HS has over the Prius just off the top of my head...

- 4yr/50k Basic Warranty & 6yr/70k Powertrain vs. 3yr/36k & 5yr/60k
- Lexus Loaner Car privileges @ Services vs. not available
- Free emergency tow to your Lexus dealer of choice vs. not available
- 4 wheel independent suspension vs. torsion beam rear
- 2.4L Atkinson Cycle w/Lexus Synergy Drive vs. 1.8L w/Hybrid Synergy drive.
- 187 combined HP vs. 134 combined HP.
- Remote Touch 6th Gen Nav w/available Mark Levinson DVD system - XM Nav Traffic/Weather/Sports/Stocks info included
-Carbon neutral/Eco Friendly interior parts
- Standard 17" and Optional 18" vs Standard 16" Optional 17"
- Optional Heads Up Display
- Heated/Ventilated Seating
- Standard rear view cam w/Nav and optional front mount cam.

Most importantly, the HS & the Prius share no structural, mechanical or sheetmetal components. They fall in the same chassis architecture/family line, BUT are 2 totally different vehicles targeted towards two different demographics.

Exactly.

Comparing the HS250h to the Prius is like comparing the HS250h with the GS450h.

There is no reason to compare the two...

why would you go from the room of the rx to a much smaller hs?
why not the new rx450h?

technically true, but like herb is looking at going from rx400h to hs250 there's people that WILL cross shop prius and hs250.

besides, the prius has a unique look whereas the hs250 looks like a 30k corolla.

Some people don't care for the wedge shaped Prius and some people value the Lexus experience. It's all preference. Just like some people would rather own and drive a Lexus over a Ford...as most would here on CL.

The Corolla references drop once one sees it in person. It's defintely changed the minds of a few friends of mine when they got to drive it last week.

I am also looking at the amount of gas I go through in a year. I am getting 25 to 26 on a gallon anyway. The HS is mid 30's the new RX is 30 city 29 highway.

I'm sure you know this by now, but the HS250h does use 87 octane.

Just based on what I've read, I would at least consider one....at least a non-NAV version. Does it have the twin electric motors on the rear wheels like the RX Hybrids do? (that, of course, gives an AWD effect). A feature like that would attract me even more.....I've become a big fan of AWD, especially Subaru's.

a few hundred a year on gas is hardly a reason to go from an rx to an hs - they're RADICALLY different vehicles, but whatever floats your boat.

Will the HS be available with intelligent park assist like the prius? i dont see why they would include it in the prius and not the HS

I have to agree with you 100% car versus SUV I just figured this out that in 15,000 miles the 2006 RX400h uses 600 gallons the new RX450h 500 gallons the HS250h figuring 35 MPG about 428 gallons. The absolute truth is would saving 172 gallon a year is worth the aggravation of driving home on unplowed state roads worth it??? Then I probably would scream give me my All Wheel Drive back. (The salesman at my Lexus dealer called me up on the first anniversary and kiddingly asked if I would take the Prius back answer NO WAY.)

good post! yeah, 172 gallons even at $3 a piece if what, $516? i'd sure as heck rather be driving an rx450h than an hs250!!!!

in an rx you feel like king of the road.

Autoblog loves the Lexus 250h

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/26/f...on-the-inside/

About time I hear things like the interior is what it should be on a Lexus or it even handles better than a IS....
