This article applies to the Lexus IS (2005-2013).

Stock fog lights, like most OEM parts, are adequate but leave a lot of room for improvement. Whether you want to stand out with a different color fog light, want a more powerful beam for safety reasons, or simply want to update your Lexus to modern times, installing a pair of HID fog lights is a great way to go. Thanks to a strong aftermarket, there are kits available that make this a simple job that most anyone can do in a minimal amount of time. Keep reading to find out how to get the job done yourself.

Tools Needed

  • 10mm socket wrench
  • HID fog light kit

Step 1 - Remove engine cover and front bumper

Removing the front bumper isn't entirely necessary, but it makes the job a lot easier. Remove the two pins and a 10mm bolt holding the front bumper on the bumper support. Once you remove the pins, you will find ten more 10mm bolts underneath. Remove all of those bolts, and set the bumper aside.

Step 2 - Connect new fog light wiring to factory harnesses

Disconnect and remove the old fog light wiring and bulbs. Connect the new fog light wiring to the factory harnesses, and replace the bulbs. Pay close attention to ensure the positive and negative wiring lines are up with the factory harness, as some kits have been known to come backwards and must be switched around.

Step 3 - Secure new wiring

New wiring can be secured in a number of ways, but the easiest is to use zip ties to mount them to the bumper support. This will ensure the wiring is safely out of the way and secured.

Step 4 - Test new lighting and re-install bumper and engine cover

Before putting everything back together, test the new lighting to ensure it functions properly. Then, re-install the bumper, replacing all 10mm bolts and pins. Put the engine cover back on and enjoy your bright new look!
