GSpilot looks great. I understand what bitkahuna is saying about staggered wheel sizes, but I would prefer to keep the stock chrome 17" wheels. It would be hard to justify spending thousands of dollars for after market wheels, since I like the wheels I have. If I were starting with wheels I didn't care for, I would replace with new wheels 8" in front and 9" or wider in the back. I know on some trucks and suv's they put fairly wide thread on 8" wheels without adverse effects. I also would think if the 265s stuck out a bit past the wheel lip, this would give some protection against hitting your wheel against curbs.

Bit - I'm with you on this one...I'm not into SUV looking setups on my GS...hey, but to each his own...Personally, I'm more into "straight" sidewalls. I think there is a reason why tire manufactures recommend 235's on a 8" wide wheel and 265's on 9.5" wide wheel..they have nothing to gain by lying to us when it comes to that...
I'd be interested to see how tirewear is on a 265 on a 8" wide wheel...

I like it! Is it possible to get a rear 3/4 view or something that would show what it looks like from a normal angle? The ant's eye view does show the fitment, but what does it look like on the street?
By the by, I've been running the staggered setup for at least a month (255 on the rear) and there seems to be less wheelspin and VSC interdiction, which I read as an actual improvement in traction. I would change the tires for looks anyway, but its cool that it does something also. I wish I had gotten 265's. . .

245/45-17 up front
i had mich pilot xgt-z4's in 245/45-17 all the way around on the stock 17 inch rims, they did not fit in front without using 3mm spacers.
those tires rubbed just a little.
ended up buying after market rims, then they fit. proper offset.
factory rims have very conservative offset, ie bring tires in a bit.
call tire rack for EXACT width of tires. not all 245/45's are the same width. some may fit without spacers on factory rims, if they are 6 mm narrower than the mich tires

I just ordered some 255/45/17s for my GS400 from Tire rack and the tech @ the rack said that it would fit with no problem when I get them installed I will post a pic...PS that is just for my rears. I talked to MO last Saturday and he told me that 245/45/17 would fit on the fronts without a rub but 255 I don't know.
