Default Will hardwired dash cam void warranty?

Hi all! New to the forum so hopefully this is okay. My wife and I recently leased our first car (we live in Brooklyn) and we went with the UX250h. So far we're absolutely loving it!

That said, living in NYC (as many of you likely know), driving around can be a bit stressful with the amount of cars and traffic. I bought a dash cam that I was planning on hardwiring (which I was going to have done professionally at a shop), but I wasn't sure if this would void the warranty or not. From everything I've read, it shouldn't (and slightly protected by the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act), but given that our car is leased, before I went and paid for someone to hard wire the cam, I figured I'd check with the community here.

I'd prefer not to call the dealership as well as I don't want to tip them off or anything either if this is a non-issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, won't void warranty. Unless if you mess up something in the install and fry your electronics..

If you install it and no issues with operating and causing issues with your car (IE: no damage is done), you're just fine.

Thank you! That was my thoughts as well, but then I got a bit nervous. I'm going to have it professionally installed to ensure no issues with the electrical. I doesn't seem overly complex, but would prefer to pay for the piece of mind.

Thanks again!

I just installed my radar detector using a mirror mount. If you can use a volt-ohm meter you don't need a professional. I taped the Home-link connector which gives power without the key being on. I would expect that is what you want a camera. Take a look at

I hardwire my UX's dashcam myself. Took about 30 minutes to get everything up and running. Take a look of my write-up...

Although I owned this car, if I ever wanted to remove the camera and wiring, the process would certainly be reversable.

It won't void your warranty and no dealer will care. Just make sure a shop does a nice job using taps and a fuse. Easily DIYable.
