What is a 10-SPEED DIRECT-SHIFT CVT?
I know what a cvt transmission is. Basically it has a clutch, a band, and two pulleys. The band goes across the pulleys. The pulleys change diameters in unison thereby making every possible gear ration.
Lexus distinguishes the transmission on the UX as a 10-speed direct shift cvt. Is that just a software simulation of a regular 10 speed using the cvt? If so, why is that superior to a "regular" cvt.
