Direct Shift CVT Question
Hey everyone,
So I've had my UX 200 for about a week now and I've been noticing that when my car shifts from 1st to 2nd (being that it's the only "real" gear in the CVT) I get the sensation that the front wheels slip every so slightly. Sometimes it's suttle and other times it's pretty apparent.
I would say that it occurs about 60-70% of the time, especially when I accelerate normally and not push the throttle past the halfway point. If I lay on the throttle a bit more, say to get off the line quickly and pass someone, it doesn't do it as often.
Should I be concerned or is this a common occurrence with this kind of Direct Shift CVT?

Interesting. This is typical of higher-torque vehicles. Some questions that come to mind:
Does it happen in manual mode if you control the upshift?
Different roads (dusty, wet, etc)?
Do you feel any jerkiness or anything abnormal with the transmission? If not, I wouldn't worry about it though I'd mention it next time you're in for servicing

Other than that, the transmission seems to be fine. Highway driving is nice and smooth. Even putting the car in sport mode and overtaking people seems to work without any hitches. I just find it strange that it only really happens when I'm accelerating pretty conservatively and not aggressively.

So after a couple days of testing, I'm pretty certain its the transmission shifting from first to second in normal driving. It does not have the same "slipping" feel when I am driving in manual mode.
My guess is that when I'm driving normally, it happens when the revs stay under 2500 for when it shifts into second gear. It's just a strange feeling from the car, a quick vibration as if the front tires are slipping a bit but it's definitely transmission related.
I drive 100 percent on normal roads here in Miami. So I don't think it has to do with the road surface itself.
It has me semi-concerned so I may take it to the dealer this week to see if they can possibly figure out what it is. Hopefully it's just me being paranoid and that it's a normal feeling from this type of transmission.

It's a brand new transmission so always good to get it checked out though I doubt it's anything serious. Ask to have a test drive with another UX 200 to see if its the same or not.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Mine is the same way on acceleration. I have a little over 3k. I haven't noticed it much I wonder if the new Corollas are having the same jerky feeling.

I have something similar, possibly the same. It's like a.. Jerk or bump from the trans from "1st to 2nd." Could just be a characteristic of the CVT band. It's my first CVT, who knows. I don't want to take it back unless it collapses, I don't trust dealerships. Mine also has a wheel vibration from 42-52, super obnoxious.

I've had the same issue for a while now. It started to occur in eco mode, then in normal but never in sports mode. The fist time I complained about it to my dealer, they revised it and topped off the transmission fluid stating it was a bit low. The next fews day I noticed the issue was still occurring. I was directed by my service advisor to contact Lexus customer experience. I did and after a few weeks a field specialist came to see my car and approved for the whole transmission to be replaced. So after all that the problem got better but still happened every once in a while. I called Lexus customer experience again and this time they submitted my case for Lexus to buy back the car. In the end, the case was approved and Lexus corporate bought back my lease for the Lexus UX200 2019.
