Default TX350 oil change intervals

Lexus says to change oil in the TX350 every 10K miles. Why would someone doubt that is not often enough? Just asking.

It's a recommendation. There is nothing wrong with doing it more frequently other than the additional cost with a trade off of maybe extending the life of the vehicle which only comes into play if you are determined to drive it past the 150k mile mark. That said, I always cut the factory recommended interval in half. Just makes me feel better with no evidence of any benefit. YMMV

Most of us will probably change oil every 5000 miles, some even at 3000 - 4000. I just asked a question about 20weight oil recently and boy oh boy did that one take on a life of its own! This forum is basically enthusiasts who care about their cars, so most, including myself, will not approach 10,000 mile oil change intervals. I will go 5000 and change. There is no "right" answer, but some are better than others.

Lexus gives you a warranty manual. It lists reason when the 10k oil change does not work. Compare your driving habits, select a duty cycle, and choose which oci is appropriate guided by Toyota engineers.

Some folks do a break in oil change early, as plenty of owners get unnerved when they see machine debris/metal flakes in the first oil change, particularly in the filter. Nothing abnormal, as new engines always have some level of debris, and the filter is doing its job if you see debris in the media specifically. Toyota's official guidance on the matter dont fear, let it run, but up to the owner.

I don't even drive 10k in a year anyway. I change mine once a year which is around 6k miles.

5,000 is what I use on all my vehicles. 10,000 miles is fine if you just want to make it to the end of the warranty or around 100,000 miles. 5,000 miles has been shown to sludge up engines.

"5000 miles has been shown to sludge up engines."
Where is backup for this please?

Depends on how long you're keeping the car. If you keep your car for around 100,000, no sweat. But the next owner won't like you. Lots of youtube videos on this from mechanics showing sludged up engines on disassembly or cameras through the valve cover. Especially the one from "The Car Care Nut". He worked for years as a certified Toyota mechanic at Toyota dealers and now has his own shop. He recommends AGAINST the practice of the 10,000 mile oil change. He's disassembled well- maintained Toyota engines using 5000 mile change intervals at 200,000 miles and they look like new inside. The 10,000 mile interval engines will show lots of sludge at 200,000 and often require replacement. Toyota/Lexus will easily go 200,000-to 300,000 miles with good maintenance.

Do what you want but I believe oil changes are cheap and engines are expensive.

CORRECTION:

Actually, I posted the wrong interval; I meant to say 10,000 mile oil change intervals has been shown to sludge up engines.

Apologies all round!
