Default CX Axle - CV Joint Failure

My TX500h Luxury has 27k miles and the CV joint or axle is failing. It began to click when accelerating and turning, and this started after around 20k miles. I have an appointment this week for evaluation and repair. Anyone else?

perhaps the boot became compromised, punctured from some road hazard.

Could be. I’ll learn more Thursday when I take it in to the dealer. That said, it appears to be a known issue. I’m seeing a number of posts about it on the Grand Highlander forums.

all you'd have to do is turn the wheel to the left (or right) and look with your eyes to see if any damage or grease leaking. it's a tall vehicle so plenty of space to look.

The joint or axle is definitely bad, with it being under warranty I’m not too concerned about sorting out which. Also getting the recalled airbag repaired as well as a couple other small items.

Picked up my TX today after 7 days at the dealer. The installed a new axle and it seems they weren’t entirely sure what the issue was. It seems better for now.

32,000 mile update - CV Axle is bad again, and will need to be replaced. I chose to wait for an updated or improved axle. Lexus said the 350 has already received a “fix”, but there is not one yet for 500h. I’ll wait with the bad axle until the new/improved axle is released for 500h.

Yup, happened with mine closer to 15k miles. They weren't surprised at all, had a bulletin all ready to go on the repair, etc

Which model do you have? Has it happened again?

Mine is just a 350, but I'd be surprised if the hybrid used different parts for this.

My dealer mentioned that I was the 6th repair they had for this issue.

Dealer said the 500h has a slightly different axle and that there isn’t a fix yet. Fewer 500h out there, I guess. Thanks for your feedback.

Default Humming noise after Tx350 axle replacement

My front axles had the clicking noise and were both replaced at around 6k miles. Has anyone else had a humming noise that replaced the clicking, after the axles were replaced? This occurs when turning left or right.

Which model do you have. I haven’t noticed a hum. Thanks for the feedback.

I have the 2024 tx350. I think they figured it out though. When they installed the new axles, they must have bent the backplate. So when i was turning, the plate was rubbing on the rotor.

i have also been told that they are now replacing the gas door thing totally

Thanks for the additional feedback. That is what I heard about the 350, unfortunately it appears that parts are slightly different for the 500 and I haven’t heard that there’s a fix in yet. Glad to hear they figured out your other issue. That’s good news about the fuel doors, I have had a few occasions where I couldn’t get it open.
