what booklet are you referring to? was this included in the glovebox with your vehicle purchase?

My TX came with manuals in the glovebox. You can find manuals and maintenance schedule on the mylexus website.

The "Warranty and Services Guide" you can get online doesn't have the scheduled maintenance pages; but the booklet that comes with the car does.

If you want a summary, change the oil every 10k and take it to the dealership every 30k for inspection, lube, and torque. Booklet says brake fluid every 60k, plugs at 120k, and coolant 150k.

I'm a bit more conservative and will do 5k oil and 50k brake/coolant/plugs. I'll also probably throw in transmission/transfer case/differential at 50; the whole "lifetime" fluids concept seems like a bad idea to me.

The 10k oil has also burned me in the past by clogging up the PCV system in a Volvo and seems even riskier in a turbo charged engine... turbo oiling systems get really hot and clog easily. I do oil myself, so very cheap insurance and an excuse to hide in the garage for a bit on a Sunday .

I am sticking with 5K OCIs right now. I would plan on doing diff, trans, and plugs every 60K regardless of what they say. I would recommend brake fluid every 3 years regardless of mileage. Coolant every 150k seems totally fine to me unless you have a leak and need to replace some of it (thermostat, radiator, coolant pump, etc.). Coming from German car ownership I am very familiar with "lifetime fluid" and the joke is the fluid lasts the lifetime of the part which is not how you want to find out how long it lasts...

This is my first 4cyl turbo vehicle of any kind. Since the turbo works the engine harder I would assume oil changes would probably be best @5k miles. I also notice mine uses a little oil I've added about 1/3 qt to it after 900 miles. No signs of leaks anywhere. The (2) RX350 I've owned never used a drop of oil during ownership.

I think it's pretty normal for the engine to burn a bit of oil during break-in as the piston rings seat. Hopefully that's all it is. After 700 miles my level seems to be right at where it was when I got it home.

If you want to be super ****, a 1000 mile change isn't a terrible idea to get all of the break in material out... that's on my weekend to do list!

this is normal. I never checked the level as I neared 5000 miles before I did my first oil change but I did check it at around 2000 miles and it seemed full. the oil was still crystal clear.

I am now at 7500 miles and I could see if it has burned oil in the last 2500 miles but I doubt it.

I got my first at 1K miles for $96 after taxes at a Lexus dealership and my next change is every 5K going forward, If its a waste then its a waste. I was told by someone on Reddit to go kill my self because I was poisoning the plant but I drove only 1,100 miles in roughly 6 months LOL , All to their own? right?

I don’t think it’s a waste, changing oil more often is never going to be bad. It might not help but it won’t hurt. Getting yelled at about the planet seems kinda harsh. Any real shop is going to recycle the oil, they would face severe fines if they did not. I do my own changes and there are so many places that take used oil in for free.

it's more or less a law. if a store sells new motor oil they must also accept used motor oil for recycling for free. you can go to any auto parts store and they have a tank in the back...

I was told the engine is already "broken in" when we purchased it. The SUV had 18 miles on the odometer. There is no way the rings are seated among other parts in the engine. I changed the oil at 1,000 miles and sent a sample to Speediagnostix to get it tested. When I get the results back, I'll post. After reading countless blogs, and watching hours of videos I'll be changing all my fluids way before Lexus says that I should. My goal is to get 300,000 miles, if the good Lord doesn't call me home first!
