Default Help before I jump off a cliff - 06 GS430 Rear Struts

I've searched and re-searched and it looks like I am stuck with this costly repair. Shops in town are all around 1800-2000. I know there is a better way. From what I've gathered from this forum, you can use the 06 GS300 strut, but I'm not 100% sure. About the cheapest OEM struts I've found are $275 each plus strut mounting kit for $130, so I'm looking at $415 per side for struts? This is wifes car, so coilover is not going to be acceptable, but for those 06 GS430 owners, is there an after market part that you used that is less expensive that worked. I believe it has the sport/normal switch, so not sure if that drives the price up for the struts. Thanks in advance. I have to find a better option that OEM if it exists.

Well, your in about the same position as we (GS 350 AWD) are.. Strut choices are far few and in between. At the end of the day and all the research, most of us will be perusing the stock or OEM option for struts front and rear. You mentioned no coilovers, however, there maybe a worthy coilover from K-Sport.
Perhaps a few years ago, coilovers for any of the Lexus would not have been a viable option (ride height, stiffness), but today, manufactures of coilovers are coming around and developing a coilover that somewhat mirrors a stock ride.. In my opinion, their not quite there yet. I'm going to stick it out another year to see what else they come up with.

Thanks for the info, I can get the parts for about $700 (struts & mounts x2), now I just need to find a mechanic that will put them on for less than $1000 in. I've been quote 6hrs of labor for $1000??? They're jacking up labor rates since they aren't making anything off the parts.

get a Megan coilover for $600 for all 4 BUT set the height as OEM height. Trust me, your wife won't notice the difference
installation should be $100-150 for all 4.
