Default Shock replacement - DIY questions

N/S Rear shock has gone on my 06 GS, got a new one and will this weekend replace.

I've done them before and this looks pretty standard to me but......

I'd appreciate any tips or things to watch out for. Any weird angles I need especially on the install?

I know I've got remove the whole trunk lining which is probably the hardest part with my butter fingers I doubt the clips will live.

Actually you dont have to remove everything. You can actually pull the corner out with out damaging the lining and access the 3 bolts. I know we dont have a DIY but if you look at the ISx50 DIY thread you will see what is required. The GS is the same. I think its rather easy on this car.

Most important is to mark the top and lower hats to make sure you piece them together for alignment on the top and bottom and save yourself the extra time taking it apart again. I just used white chalk when I did mine.

it was on the annual inspection (called MoT in the UK), the noted there was a 'light misting' of the shock. It was then in for its service a week later and noted the same problem.

I can get the shock for $200 - I've now decided that other costs (at Xmas) are more of a priority so will wait for next year. TBH I don't feel any vibrations or anything else so it's at an early stage.

But I will do a diy post once done.

to everyone that wants to see pics its identical to the 2gen IS if you look at their DIY thread. There is not one thing different on bolt location or even the parts I had the pleasure of owning both cars and working on several of them locally helping out other members installing. In fact I helped another member this past weekend go back to stock 4x4 status and took apart his coils and put back the OEM set up. All of this was done in my home garage. The front of the car is very easy and doesnt take much time at all. The rear is a little more since you have to take more apart to allow the OEM to fit back in and make sure everything is placed back.

But I promise you until we have a full DIY and write up the 2gen ISx50 is identical and wont leave you stranded.

if everyone would like I can use the pics from the IS and do a write up and make points of areas if that helps. I would have done this myself but it was below freezing and I did this outside with pretty much no heat so I was in a little hurry you can say!

yea its pretty much the same. its not that difficult at all. in fact the suspensions are the same parts so what they show in the 2IS thread like mentioned will be more than enough to help.
