Default Suspension upgrade costs?

Just wondering what it would cost to make my car handle
in a more stable way. My 06 gs300 has 40000 miles and is
downright scary at cruising hwy speeds. I have the stock
17" wheels and can not afford both wheels tires and suspension.
So, I was wondering about just suspension work. I would need
it professionally done. Advise would be appreciated. I would
like to keep the ride from feeling bumpy and harsh.

I think the suspension on the GS is actually very good. If your car is scary at high speed the issue is probably that you lack mechanical traction.

You can address this by buying more sticky tires. The best are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or A/S Plus, or Bridgestone RE-11s or RE-070.

If you are having too much body roll get some sways. F-sport sways would help and you can get the updated bushings to keep it quiet.

What tires do you have now?

Car came with faulken tires, a mud and snow tire. I. Do think
body roll is a factor also. Is that just sway bars or do
I need other parts? What type of dollar investment
are we talking about?

I test drove an 06 GS300 and when taking turns I could not control the car very well , coming from an 07 IS . I test drove an 07 GS350 and it handled way better , so I bought it

I looked at the F sport sway bar set, springs and bilstein shocks. Wonder if two greand is enough with labor? And, I am not really concerned with cornering at high speed, just high speed stability. This car does not hunker down and cruise well. It is very susceptible to any distraction such as wind, road grooves from heavy trucks, some road seems etc. I just don't feel safe. If I have to make a high speed maneuver, I may be a dead man. Suggestions are welcome! Again, I don't want to severely compromise the luxury aspect of this car but can live with a little more stiffness if that is what is necessary. Suspension gurus, I need your help please.

Before even thinking about suspension, I think your tires are a problem. From what you are describing I am not surprised that you have issues with high speed stability. In addition to increasing grip, you could choose a tire with a more firm sidewall to reduce bodyroll. Tire-rack is a good place to look.

Also you should check alignment. I don't know when you last did it, but GS is hard on the alignment and I would suggest re-doing it once per year.

Regarding the suspension, combining F-sport sways with bilstein shocks should give a further improvement in handling. It won't stop the traction feeling weak (that's tires) but it will reduce roll. More of the roll reduction will come from the sways than the shocks.

I have an 06 and my suspension feels fine. I have BFG G Force tires on and they are also 17" and they are very responsive to my steering. BTW how fast is your cursing highway speed?

That does sound strange cuz I cruise at the same speed and the car control is fine. Maybe you do need some suspension work, sorry I couldn't be more of a help.

What exactly do you mean? Are you having hard time maintaining straight line? Or are you having hard time controlling the car on very winding roads? Or is it the braking that is the problem? Give us more details....

I have an 08 but I think you will find that just doing the F Sport Sways (get the new bushings) with new tires should solve your problem. The F Sport shocks and springs are great but you will have a harsher ride and you have to want that.

This is exactly what I think.

I appreciate everyones help. I took the car to the shop today for various things, one of which is the high speed instability. Most of the roads I travel are flat and not so very curvy. My problem just stems from normal driving. The dips , nooks and crannies seem to affect the car much more at higher speed. Call me crazy but I can not see myself ever doing the 140 MPH that someone said they did.

If the dealer can not pin point the problem, I just may have to try tires and the F Sport swaybar. I really love the car. I wish it handled more like my 04 G35 sedan. I felt very confident driving that car. Bobbing and weaving was no problem. While I have slowed down my driving style and don't do the bob and weave thing anymore, I would not try it with this car.

Once it is fixed you should be fine. I haven't drive a GS300, but my car can definitely bob and weave like a champ.
