New to the platform so I appreciate any comments. My dealer said I need the right rear axle replaced on my 2005 GS430 just b/c the boot is cracked. They quoted $1400 to replace. Is it me or does that sound awfully high? Is it an option to just clean it and grease and reboot?
Retail on the axle from Lexus is $600 (aftermarket $100), did they quote how many hours to do the job? That's a bolt on style axle the easiest type to replace. I'm never surprised by dealer pricing.
If the axle is not damaged the boot can be replaced for sure, that's the preferred way to go since the OE axle is much better than aftermarket replacements.
Here’s the breakdown of the quote. Seems like highway robbery to me. Maybe I should take it to Firestone and see if they will reboot it. Lexus said they would not.
LeX2k - Thanks for the advice. Took it to a local repair shop and they quoted only $350-$400 for a OE spec replacement. I would rather have a Lexus one but that part alone is around $600. OE spec it is!
