I think the name is what is most misleading....Strut Bar.
The bars do help to strengthen the front end...but it has nothing to do with the struts.
In reality it's an engine bay brace that ties the two sides of the inner fender together via being mounted to the strut tower.
The strut towers is a super easy place to bolt the bar to as it's high up, so it's usually a straight shot to the other side of the engine bay.
The strut towers are also connected to the frame rails, so it's almost like you're boxing in the front end.

You can find a multitude of braces for under the car also, from the front subframe all the way to the rear subframe, and everywhere in between.
