Default '92 SC300 now making grinding sound

I consider myself a "shade tree mechanic", willing to try easier repairs, thanks to YouTube.
I bought Lexus rotors and brake pads and now have a horrible grinding noise. I don't understand how now the top of the caliper is now rubbing against stock Lexus rims. What I find strange is that the repairs I made, did not increase the diameter of the brake system. I can now see on the passenger rear, that there is no clearance now between the caliper in inside of the rim.
Did go out and do the process of breaking in/setting the new pads and when done, still had the grinding sound, but nothing hot back there.
Even tried putting the lug nut washers on the inside, in order to space the Lexus rim out another tiny fraction of an inch.
Thanks in advance for any/all help.
