Default Need front tires, do I have to buy the $240 tire again?

Hello,

I bought a used 2012 Lexus IS250 Fsport with 225/255 40 18" wheels and I need new front tires, the 225's.

Current have the
BRIDGESTONE
POTENZA RE050
  • Front: 225/40R18 88Y
Tire rack is $228 each plus shipping and American Tire Store is $240 each plus install.

Do I need to go high cost or can I get Pirelli's for $150 or $160. Recommendations for a good/great alternative?

Thanks,

Mike

Get whatever brand you want. I've always bought Nitto Motivos and they are $140 per front tire. As long as you stick to a common brand you should be fine.

Common, meaning not the Japanese cheap knock off?

Thanks.

While it is good to have even handling characteristics on all corners, if you aren't really pushing your car to it's limits I say sure why not go for a cheaper tire. It's really up to you and your needs.

Thanks, got the Pirelli set of 4 today, about $900 with $70 off rebate (instant).

They ride nice and saved me about $400.

Cheers!

Been running different front and rear tires for a while now. Cannot really tell a difference as long as they're both max performance summer tires.

tires effect your braking capabilities. cheap tires will give you worse braking than the more expensive brand tires.

Well ofc. Most people don't need max performance summer tires though and get by just fine. I personally love my Pilot Super Sports and would throw down the cash for a new set every time but if someone doesn't really even use the tires to their performance threshold they can probably go down a rung in performance and be fine. I will always tell people to buy the best tires they can afford though. I don't know the OPs financial situation so I'm not going to go there.

Some tires are too darn noisy as well. I like that perfect balance of performance, cost , and comfort.
