I'm about to replace the steering rack with a remanufactured one from autozone and was wondering if I needed to get new bushings or not? Thanks

On our '92 after the steering rack replacement, the LCA bushings were done the week after.

Really makes a difference. We used a Prothane kit.



It is a bear getting the old bushings out but worth it.....

I would HIGHLY recommend it while you are in there. It is too often I hear of cracked bushings after install and then having to go right back in and replace them. If you can, replace them at the same time.

To clarify I'm referring to the rack and pinion bushings. I will definitely be replacing the LCA bushings as well.

Ditto. Replacing the bushing made a significant difference in steering feel after I've replaced both the rack and bushings.

does anybody have feedback on which rack and pinion to get? There are duralast, Atlantic automotive and rack Doctor available?

on the autozone website, it says that the duralast steering rack and pinions come without electronic variable effort components? if i go with that, how will it affect my steering?

Just reuse your original one. Unless that's the reason your replacing the rack.

I got the duralast rack when mine was leaking (previous owner ran power steering through it and killed it), and it came with the smaller bushings which were much harder than the stock lexus ones. I already had urethane bushings so I put them in, but they do come with new bushings/races for the two on the drivers side.

For the EVO solenoid, MAKE SURE TO EITHER REPLACE OR SWAP OVER [U]BOTH[U] OF THE O-RINGS!! ask me how I know... Either way if you have high miles in the northern states it may be pretty stuck on there so swap it all while the rack is out to make life easier.

I would definitely replace the bushings while you are doing the rack. I know prothanes are good, but I changed mine with the Whiteline Racing bushings and it made a huge difference.
