Should I buy a used rack and pinion?
My 98 Gs400 right boot on the rack and pinion started to leak a few days ago! Replacing the boot alone is not an option. Would you recommend it to buy a used rack and pinion ( not refurbished) but coming off of a salvaged car.
PS: the seller seem legit.

I have been looking for a steering line at the local yards, most steering systems seem bad, leaking, and torn up. I would buy a new rack, for the warranty as i wouldnt trust a car i cannot see, if you do decide to buy used, make sure the system is not open. after a car sits and the system is leaking fluid, the fluid will settle and moisture will get in and kill tge pump and rack

Even if the used rack is not leaking, you don't know the condition of the inner tie-rods. For the work that's required, it's not worth the saving if the rack leaks again or the rods become loose. I bought my re-manufactured rack for $275 and that includes everything. So far no problem, but at least it came with a warranty.
