Default Megan LP Coilover Spring Change

For those of you who are familiar with rebuilding coilovers and that type of thing, are the front springs any different than the rears dimension wise? I have Megan LPs that I want to stiffen from 10/8kg to 12/10kg. I realize that I have to purchase the 12kg springs, but is it possible for me to simply move the front 10kg springs to the rear, giving me the 12/10 setup? Also can anyone confirm both front and rear coilovers are able to withstand a +2kg upgrade in spring? As you guys know the advertising for the LPs say 12/8kg.... which isn't true... but the sellers that actually advertise them as 10/8 say that they are able to withstand +/- 2kg, so hopefully someone can confirm that. I know it's a simple concept to move the fronts to rears, but I just wanted to make sure so I don't damage the shocks over time. I'd love to hear your guys' experiences too about swapping out springs and whatever else that could help me, thanks!

I think the shock would have to be re-valve to work well with different spring rates. I once was using similar set up as you. I found them a bit soft myself. If i were to do this again, id go BCR with swift springs.

I've called Megan. They stated their struts can take a +2kg sprin rate before having to be revolved.

I purchased 12k springs from Megan specifically for this purpose. Took me 8 weeks to get em.

^The vendor for BCRs said the same thing; standard springs are 10k/8k, and I opted for 12k/8k. Vendor said that BCR would not need different re-valved shocks unless I had went 14k/12k.

As far as the front 10k spring being used for the rear, that could totally be possible!

thank you guys for the input! So both front and rears don't have to be re-valved if I'm adding 2kg, correct?

viprtwo, do you still have the 12kg springs for sale?

If you are changing from 10k to 12k (front) and 8k to 10k (rear), no.

ah okay, gotcha. so I PMed a vendor on here asking them my same question, they recommend getting a new pair for the rears as well because the spring lengths are different. From looking at the front and rears, they look pretty much the same length to me... but I've yet to measure.

All the springs are 220mm in length.
Strange the vendor wouldn't know this as all ISx50 are the same
  • 62-220-008
  • 62-220-010
  • 62-220-012
62mm diameter
220mm length
then the spring rate 8,10,12 in Kg/mm

^Good info!
And yes, most springs/shocks will take a +/- 2kg before needing to be revalved. I did exactly this in prepping for my ISF motor swap: Went from BCR 12/10 to 16/12 - swapped the 12 to the rear. Had to have the fronts revalved to accomidate for the 16 spring.

Thank you for the info viprtwo! Yeah the vendor says there's a 20mm difference but said they're contacting Megan to see what they say, haven't gotten a response on that yet.

And thanks mikellucci, I think I'm going to go for it and move fronts to rears!
