Did I do something wrong?? (DIY Goes Wrong)
Yesterday I completed a front brake job on my 2007 iS250 AWD and today while driving I'm noticing a strange sound from the driver side. It sounds like a brushing/whirling (at low speeds) sound. Did I mess up?
The car drives smooth, brakes well, no squeals when braking and the brushing sound goes away when braking, I just took it all apart again and don't see anything that could be causing the issue.
Here's what I did:
Used OEM front rotors, pads (low dust) and new shims.
Jacked up the car
Removed the wheels
Removed the caliper
Removed the bracket
Popped the rotor off with a 8mm bolt.
Installed rotors
Reinstalled the bracket (torqued 17mm bolts to 58lbs)
Greased up the back of the pad and in between the shims.
Installed pads
Used a caliper tool to push back the caliper
Reinstalled caliper (torqued 14mm bolts to 25lbs)
Reinstall wheel (torqued 76lbs)
Did I miss anything? Should I have greased something else? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I've been doing some research and I'm thinking it could be an issue with the dust shield? I'm going to be taking it apart again (third time) and hope to figure it out. I also though I read some place I had to lubricate a sliding pin but maybe that was only the rear brake job.

Sounds like you did everything you were supposed to. Your problem MIGHT be a seized caliper (or on its way to being seized). Due to the design of the front and rear calipers on the IS250 (and 350 rears), you will probably want to remove the calipers and re-lube the sliding pins. What ends up happening is the caliper's sliding pin becomes un-lubed due to moisture seeping past the rubber seal and ultimately starts rusting the pin/bore. This starts to cause uneven brake wear and a brake pad "catching" the rotor due to the caliper not being able to fully "return" as it is supposed to. This very thing happened to my 350 on the rears during my new brake pad replacement. On one caliper the thing was 100% frozen and the other about 75%; so I just replaced both calipers altogether. Of course that fixed my issue.

Thanks Gville!
I did exactly as you described and it solved it. I took both sliding pins outside of the boot and applied some more lubricant and no more noise!
