BBK Question
First off I did search so dont crucify me just yet lol. Anyway I was doing some research, and I'm still having issues finding out what would make a BBK so beneficial. (considering 5-8K for front and rear). As far as I can find, it only seems useful (not considering looks) in a race application. Can someone that had/has them chime in on some other daily benefits?
Just fyi I have the stock brakes but with EBC red stuff brake pads, and EBC slotted rotors. And when I go driving in the mountains, I can be pretty aggressive on the way down (10 mi or so) and I dont get the least bit of brake fade or anything like that. So I was just wondering if I could benefit from a BBK in this situation.

You don't need to go full 4 corners unless you REALLY want to and have the $. Most front BBKs are tuned to provide more linear braking while biased so that they still work with OEM rears. You can certainly dress up the rears with SS line, matching styled rotors, and color matched calipers.

The other benefit of most BBKs are the 2-pc rotors. There is weight savings that will contribute to power (somewhat) and handling. I know that after my Stoptechs were installed, the car felt much more nimble.

Upgrading to a BBK has quite a few benefits. I recently upgraded from OEM with Rotora slotted rotors to a full Rotora BBK. From an appearance standpoint they look fantastic. From a performance perspective I have more immediate grip, less fading with repetitive braking , and MUCH better high speed braking. I went with 332X32 fronts, 330X30 rear, 4-pot on all corners.
I think a budget of 5-8K is WAY more than you'll end up spending, I got mine from RavSpec here on the site for less than 3K during one of their specials. I would consider the BBK as one of the top mods I've completed.

a much cheaper alternative would be supra TT BBK, or the LS400 BBK. that should cost about $300 for calipers, and good rotors with SS lines another $200. about a $500 setup. also you will never have to search for where to buy replacement pads 'cause you use OEM if you want to. i dont how much if any more stopping power stoptec, or brembo 4 pistion calipers will give over supra/ls400 BBK

where are the TT calipers for $300 and rotors with lines for $200?

there is also a caliper bracket set(uses stock gs300 caliper mount bolts) that will allow the lexus ISF rotors 14.2" and the corvette zo6 6 pot calipers for the front and I believe zo6 4-pot calipers for the rears. [EDIT: Just setting up the front would run] you around ~800$-900$ front and read set. I'll be getting the front brackets soon, I'll let you know.

so what's the price on the ISF rotors? do they have aluminum hat? I would switch out my ls400 for this if I see benefit in weight savings in that area.

I don't want to go too much into it, as this setup has been done on an sc300/400. I feel confident in saying that this should work on the 1 gen gs300 and the second gen[providing no other parts are in the way on this gen]. My biggest concern is getting the bracket. once I get that, then I will piece together everything else from value priced online vendors. When all is said and done I personally am looking at ~650$(hoping some things work out). If the caliper connection doesn't work out, it will be around 800-900$(For the fronts only).
I doubt the ISF rotor I recently was looking has an aluminum hat, but at ~130$ a pop for a drilled & rust proof rotor(for the ISF mind you), its not too bad.
I've seen 2 -ISF OEM rotors(non-drilled) go for 510$ combined from the dealership..and that is supposed to be discounted. just check ebay you'll see how high the markup is.
**EDIT**: I made a mistake. for a set it may cost around $800-$900 FRONT setup only(basic online pricing), and I foresee around $400-$500 rears. sorry about the post earlier. I DO NOT think the fronts and rears will be $800-$900 total. Unless you went a different approach(keep the same larger sized disks, but save yourself some serious cash by using 1 or 2 pot calipers instead of the 6 pot zo6's) This will still give you the added benefit of a much larger rotor to dissipate heat, and also an upgrade in stopping power due to moving the caliper further away from the center of rotation. For example I found a place that has single pot 07' standard corvette(can be found on Zo6, but not the Zo6 6 pot premium caliper)calipers for 55$ each. There is a core charge of $50, so the total without you sending back your stock gs300 caliper is $105 vs ~$320(1-caliper, zo6 6pot).

I think the OP got his question answered. So, is the z06 caliper all aluminum? will the rotor match or will it have issues with it wobbling and not rotating properly with it not fitting the hub perfectly? If you end up with something different, please post pic. TIA.

When you are ready, please post a new thread so we can continue this discussion, and so that rumors don't start that we can put ZO6 brakes on all four corners of the 2GS. At least until it's "proven".
