Default Would like your opinion's

Hello,
This is my first post to this forum, which I have been reading alot of lately, a big thanks to everyone for posting some great DIY's and other info.
I have had a 2000 GS400 for 8 years or so (bought it from my dad used w/14k miles), currently has 57k miles.
I have recently got the DIY, mod bug. I wanted to know what some good mods are and can be done by a average DIY (granted I did just replace 2 rear calipers, 2 rear rotors and pads by myself, not sure how difficult that was in the grand scheme).
Was looking at the K&N air intake upgrade http://store.knfilters.com/search/pr...x?Prod=57-9011

Would like to do something about the roll on the car through turns, but messing with the suspension scares me kinda.

Anyway, tell me what you all think. Thanks!!!

Springs or coils, sway bars, strut bars, and bushings. The K&N is a great upgrade as long as it is a dry filter and not a wet one. GL

Coilovers are a pretty easy mod and they will drastically affect the ride for the better. Of course you'd have to pony up the cash for the coilovers but the installation is pretty straightforward. You could spend less and just do some better springs which would also lower the car and give you a nicer, sportier ride...

The mod bug bites once bit it leaves a sickness that can't be cured Good luck with the mods!

Cool, thank you for the advice. At the risk of sounding like a total noob, please explain the difference between wet and dry... Thanks again!

I think its better to determine what modifications YOU want to do first. Prioritize them by most desired to least and then figure out what is in the budget and your skill set.

Suspension is a great place to start as it provides both cosmetic and performance returns. As suggested a drop and sway bars are not necessarily difficult. Just save all the stock parts so if you do change your mind later or encounter an issue you can reinstall them.

I don't think K&N makes a oil free filter but I could be wrong. Intakes in general don't add enough performance gain to our cars to warrant their cost in my opinion. They seem more like under hood eye candy or Fisher Price "My First Mod" stuff to me.

A wet filter uses an oil that tends to clog your MAF sensor. Where a dry one doesn't.

thats not entirely true...

i have been using a k&n filter for ABOUT 2.5 years on my gs430 and no one MAFCEL problem from it, not one. you know why? cause i know how to read and i DON'T OVER OIL the filter which is a problem some people using the k&n's have, but guess what guys (and not aiming at you infamous) this isnt the filters fault or problem this is the operators fault/problem so PLEASE stop blaming your MAF/CEL issues on the k&n filter. they have been around for years and years and truthfully are a great filter if you can read directions and not over oil the filter like alot of people on here seem to do. i mean they wouldnt still be in business for this long if they made junk filters

Default Sway Bar

Hi again,
Thanks for all the info, and the explanation of wet vs. dry filter. If I was to go with a new sway bar, specifically a TRD through L-tuned, would I have to get the alignment done afterwards? Not that big of a deal if I did, just would add a extra step I would like to avoid if possible.
Whats are your thoughts on the stiffer front/rear chassis braces. They look relatively easy to install (famous last words)?
Well, I did just replace the air filter with a stock one a couple of weeks ago, so I will hold off on the k&N air filter.

Will put up some pics tonight.

Thanks again all!!!

Adding sway bars would not mess up your alignment. You can change them without having to redo alignment.

Personally if you wanted to do some work here is what I would do. Grab a set of coilovers, they will remedy for body roll problems to a certain extent. Just changing the sway bars will help but the suspension is so soft that it wont really help until you replace the struts. As far as the K&N there is one in the classifieds right now for really cheap, the K&N is a really simple install so no issues there and it is a really amazing sound https://www.clublexus.com/forums/2ge...ir-intake.html. Suspension is time consuming but not impossible there are many DIY posts here on how to do it. Good luck with your choices and installation.
