My 2003 GS 300 has a clunking sound when turning and backing (as well as going forward) , especially in and out of the driveway. It also does it when going over speed bumps and such. it started at about 78,000 miles.
I've checked the upper strut bushings and they are still like new! Visual inspection and pulling on various suspension components shows nothing.
ANYONE ELSE?

It's your brake kit. When you open your wheel and look directly on top of the caliper where there is a hole where you could see your brakes. You will see a long clip that holds your brake. If you lose that clip, you will hear it even more often. It happens mostly in the morning during the reverse then forward. It's normal. If you have aftermarket brakes or rotors, it tend to happen more.
Thanks, I'll check it out tonight. It does the clunking under acceleration when going over rough surfaces, also. Do you think the clip would cause this?

If it clunks everytime, you would need to check your brakes and suspension out. Go underneath and start wiggling.
