Default HELP! Stoptech BBK (or any BBK) Question!

OK guys,
Hoping this has happened to someone else, so i can get this fixed ASAP.

So i have a Stoptech BBK, and recently, brakes have been squeaking. So i took out all my rotors and got the surface machined. Then i took out the pads and sanded them down.

So most of the noise is gone, BUT, i have this nastyyyy vibration when i brake from 50,60,70,80 mph. any ideas to what is causing this vibration?

Usually it would be caused by warped rotors, but they have just been resurfaced. Pads are new and sanded down as well.

And, i never had this awful vibration prior to this maintenance on the brakes.

If someone could help, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Yup, only when i brake from high speeds 50mph+.. when i brake at low speeds, its not that noticeable.

When i'm just driving, its smooth, no vibrations at all.

the squeaking u heard was most likley from oxidation on the pads... usually after a few hard steps on the breaks the squeaking goes away...

Did they turn the rotors with the "hats" (black aluminum center piece) still attached? This would be the only way to really get them true.

I'm not sure that two-piece rotors really 'like' being turned.

When I replaced my front StopTech pads I replaced the friction rings (rotor surface rings) and I re-used the rotor hats. No vibration issues at all!

Yep, they turned it with the hats still attached.

I guess my only concern is that they didn't do a good job turning the rotors, but the guy is pretty reputable in the Socal area, supposedly does really good work.

The only thing i can think of is that the hat of the rotor has these little things you can tighten, and supposedly you're supposed to re torque those when you turn the rotors.

Don't know if this will cause the vibration to go away. Anybody else hear of this?

The only thing that it can point to is your brakes. I would beat that your rotors weren't turned perfectly. If they aren't turned perfect your going to have a little movement in it, the faster your going, the more movement you have. Just trying to help.

On my AP Racing set up those bolts and nuts are supposed to be torqued to 126 Inch Pounds.

thanks for the info, i tried finding the torque specs on the Stoptech website, but it wasn't there..

Before you torqued it down to spec, did you experience vibration as well?

You know what, i have thought about this as well. If torquing the nuts/bolts to spec doesn't fix the problem, i'll have the guy turn the rotors again.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I was not experiencing any vibration. I took them off to clean up\paint the hats.

Keep us posted.

I bet you have a warped rotor. I am also told cross drilled or slotted rotors don't like to be turned, as previously stated. Have you thought of just replacing them?
