Like many of you, I received a recall notice on my 06 IS 250's power steering. I made an appointment to have the recall work done at a Lexus dealer. I had to make a trip over the weekend that required about a two-hour drive to the nearest major airport. As I got within a mile or so, my power steering completely quit in the middle of turn near a semi tractor in the opposite lane. It was dicey for a second there.
I consulted the dealer, and was informed that as long as the power steering unit had fluid, I would not cause damage by driving the car that way. I was able to make my plane and drive the car back home. I would describe the effort required to steer the car as herculean.
If you got the recall notice, don't put it off. I am sure this has probably come up on this forum before, but I did a search first and could not find any references to it. This could be a real safety hazard.

The funny part here is where the dealer told you it was ok as long the power steering unit had fluid.
That it is. The service manager at Lexus of Peoria literally told me to look there for power steering fluid, and I took his word for it. Kind of makes me nervous, but I run into that kind of stuff all the time. Once I took my Lexus to a Toyota dealer for an oil change. When I came for the car, they said they notice an odd rubbing sound when they made sharp turns. I got in the car and drove a few yards. The first time I turned the steering wheel, there was the sound. Upon inspection, I found that they had rotated my tires front to back as part of their "service."

Did they happen to rotate your.... 225/40 to the Rear and the 255/40's to the front?
Yep that's what they did all right. When I asked if they had thought to check the owners' manual first, they replied something to the effect that they just work on cars, they don't check such things.

The 2IS uses electronic power steering, no fluid.
So that's why I couldn't find a reservoir under the hood...
