Default Shocks

At what mileage did you guy's replace your shocks or could tell when they were going out? I have an 02 GS430 with 73000 miles with the stock 17's and Michelin Pilot Sports A/S tires. The ride is very smooth on the highway or smooth roads, but when i hit any moderate bump, it feels kinda sharp as if it is not absorbing it correctly. How much for a job on the shocks and would your recommend OEM? Thanks!

I would easily imagine the oem shocks to be good for over 100K easily. If the supension was bad the car would bounce a lot especially over bumps..

I think if you're up for the task it can be a diy. I changed out the springs on my car with the help of a friend who knows more than I do and it really wasn't that difficult. I wouldn't go with OEM, I figure if I'm going to replace them might as well go with something sportier unless you want to keep that soft OEM feel.

my s/s combo only has about 25k on them. thats when i started woring on my suspension. i would guess oem shocks would be good for at least 50k (dependent on driving). i wouldnt trust oem shox to 100k.
