Question Alignment questions for recently lowered IS350

Just lowered my car on TeinS last week. Many have posted to get an alignment on here and was back at the dealer installing a few more items on my car. I asked them since they have the machine right there and it will save me some money. They asked if the car was pulling and I said no it was perfect. They said I shouldnt need to align then?? They also suggested I come back when I have the summer rims and tires on in about a month to see how the car drives.

Please tell me what you think. If I go back they will do it but if I recall they told me all they can do is a toe adjustment on our cars?

thanks!

wait one more week, then definitely get the alignment. i'd recommend going to a place that specializes in alignments - instead of the dealership.

just because your car isn't pulling and your alignment "looks" fine, doesn't mean you won't need one. as a matter of fact, the opposite is true, especially since you got lowering springs installed.

Thanks, so should i wait a few more weeks till i put the summer rims and tires on or do it in a few days? i think i am going to put them on in about 2 weeks and i am sure we have the chance of one slight storm that i may take a risk with but i want the winter rims/tires off!!!

I didnt feel so confident when i asked them either! They have done great work on the side for me for close to nothing so no complaints. Anything specific i need to point out when I go to have them do this? Never lowered a car before.

Thanks,

Wait a month....the thought is springs will settle and as they do, your alignment will be off again. Lost of good install places have 2 alignments built into the cost of the install because you will need one immediately, and a final one when they settle in about a month.

I got my alignment done at Tire Plus in S. FL...3 years for $100. it was either that or once for $50.

took them 15mins. Only thing that was off was the front toe. Rear toe was perfect, hard to believe since my car is pretty low.

Camber was on the edge of spec... -1.2 on both fronts and the limit was -1.1

For some reason the machine didn't show the rear camber reading when I looked at it.

It wouldn't matter anyway, there's nothing they can do about camber because there are no factory adjusters and no aftermarket either.

^ yeah no rear camber adjustment so I'm curious to hear from folks with all those agressive VIP type drops what their rear tire wear is like after a few months.

i think VIP people don't care about tire wear.

I know Miami Chassis does front and rear camber fixes for all the high end slammed cars in Miami but most people on this forum would freak out if they knew exactly how they go about doing it. It's $300 for most cars and four of my friends with 3GS or SC430 have done it. Those cars wear alot more tires due to camber than the 2IS for some reason.

Well to adjust the rear...they remove the lower control arm and open the inner mounting location hole more. They basically move it about 1/4-1/2" in more, the pulls the lower part the wheel in and correcting the camber. When you look at a freshly done car...you can see where the old location was because there is a clean circle where the bolt used to be.

The front...they have a jig that bolts to the hub and grabs and bends the spindle arm until the camber straightens out. I think they heat it with a torch while bending it.

Most people on here are too afraid to do such things to their car but its all reversible if you ever felt the need to put it back to stock....it'll just cost another $300.

I think this is a better solution than aftermarket camber kits because you dont have to replace any OEM suspension parts. Those aftermarket kits usually use cheap bushings in the replacement arms/ball joints which wear out alot faster than OEM stuff.

^^ I've heard of this method today from a friend. Roughly $250 to $300. The upper spindle is pulled approx 2-3mm to correct the front camber problem. I was told there's a shop in La Puente/ Walnut area called bareframe?? located in Valley Blvd and New. Don't know the exact address and tel number but I'll check the place when I have a chance. Will keep you posted.
